Skeeter Snacks are a line of cookies created by two dads with nut-allergic children.  The cookies are produced using the highest safety standards in facilities that do not process any products consisting of tree nuts or peanuts.  Finally! A safe, high quality product for children or adults with nut allergies, or — because they just taste so darn good — any individual who enjoys a terrific cookie!

The company kindly sent me some of their cookies to try, and let me tell you, though none of us have nut allergies, the cookies didn’t last long in our home!  Skeeter snacks come in three tasty flavors: Chocolate Chunk, Golden Oatmeal, and Skeeterdoodle, and are available to buy on the company’s website for just $3.99 for six 2-packs.

Being a bit of a chocoholic, my personal favorite is the chocolate Chunk.  Big chunks of yummy chocolate in every bite!  My spouse preferred the Skeeterdoodles, which have a terrific cinnamon flavor.  And while my eldest kid really took pleasure in the golden Oatmeal cookies, I felt they were a little a lot more ‘crunchy’ than I usually take pleasure in from an oatmeal cookie.  Overall, Skeeter snacks deliver not only on their nut-free promise, but also on terrific taste and affordability.  No cardboard taste or crazy high prices here!

The company is also committed to the ongoing education of parents, educators, and others about the dangers of nut allergies. In fact, a portion of Skeeter Snacks’ profits supports the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. Their web site uses a For Kids section, hosted by their nut-allergic squirrel mascot, Skeeter, which includes educational, fun activities and games.

LET YOUR infant gown HIMSELF

I utilized to see 3-year olds around town dressed in wild combinations of stripes, gingham, rainbow tights as well as superhero capes. I wondered when my infant would look that innovative as well as charming.*

Then it dawned on me as well as I began to produce wild combinations as well as boost the imagination in my infant’s wardrobe. If your infant is grabbing, he can assist pick out his own clothes, just like a willful preschooler.

We begin at the bottom as well as work up:

Let the infant “choose” from two or three pairs of socks. The concept is that whichever ones he touches (grabbing or sucking is okay too), he wears. You may requirement to hold them close to his hand if he’s not flapping or waving his hands about.

Now enable him to pick from two shirts.

Let him pick pants, hats, as well as any type of other accessories.

Now you can brag that infant chosen out his own clothes. ? great mommy.

* now that Holden is pushing six, he doesn’t like to be rather as wild in the fashion arena, he prefers sweats every day. Oh well.

12 steps to 12 hours sleep For infants By baby sleep professional Charmian Mead

With 26 years’ experience working in childcare, Charmian Mead is a extremely successful newborn sleep, routine and breast-feeding expert and has been mentor her technique for 20 years. She has worked around the united kingdom and internationally. during her years working with new parents, she has established a excellent method of assisting infants to sleep with the night from a extremely early age.

It’s a enjoyment to welcome her on the blog and I will be bookmarking this in case I have another baby down the line!

12 steps to 12 hours sleep

It’s frequently believed that having a new baby indicates regular night waking and normally months of sleep deprivation, but this requirement not be the case. I’ve assisted numerous infants and parents get a full night sleep as early as six weeks of age. regardless of whether you are pro routine or feed on demand, by satisfying your baby’s needs during daylight hours you will get a positive effect on your nights.

Milk or food intake

Feed your baby up until full at every day feed, enabling an hour for every feed whether you are breastfeeding, bottle feeding or on solid food. For a newborn, this enables time for winding. When breastfeeding, offer both breasts at each feed. The length and quantity of milk intake must be higher than any feeds provided at night and slowly boosting milk intake at every day feed up until sleeping with the night and therefore night feeds are phased out naturally.

Active feeding

Making great utilize of time spent feeding to make sure feeding is active and baby is actually drinking and not comfort sucking or snoozing will show positive associations with feeding and make sure your baby is full at each feed. If you are on solid foods, look at the high quality and type of food given- freshly made foods consisting of great fats and protein will be a lot more filling per spoonful than a shop gotten pouch.

Structured feeds

By spacing out day feeds where you allow sufficient time between feeds to digest and for the tummy to empty and build an appetite for the next feed, will again motivate active feeding and a higher intake of milk. You must be able to area feeds out to 3-3.5 hours apart. This provides you a feeding plan which encourages meals for food and not snacking or comfort sucking to sleep.

Digestion and wind

Your baby’s life is centred on feeding, so it makes sense that your baby is digestively comfortable in buy to sleep well. infants are not able to wind themselves in the very first 12 weeks and their bit digestive tracts can be sensitive so when breastfeeding, eliminate all gas developing foods from your diet. You will requirement to wind your baby a lot more often than frequently thought, every 5 or so minutes when breastfeeding and ½ -1oz if bottle feeding. A wind-free stomach is a comfortable stomach which results in a higher milk intake and a lot more relaxed sleep.

Awake and playtime

Factor in some awake time after feeds when your baby is full and content. This enables time for digestion and makes sure any awake time needed is during the day. infants as young as one week old can see black and white photos and look around for a short time after feeds. build on this time around regular up until reaching a full two hours, including the feed, by week 4-8.

Baby led nights

By contrast to your day routine let your baby wake naturally at night of his own accord. If he wakes, he is fed but a lighter shorter feed. night feeds tend to be a lot more effective when infants have slept for longer between feeds. I cap night feeds at 30 minutes which include winding or if bottle feeding, 4oz maximum which again must take no a lot more than 30 minutes.

Sleep positions

How and where you put your baby to bed will figure out exactly how long they sleep. A baby who is tucked in securely to a Moses basket, cot or park will sleep for longer than a baby who is delegated sleep in a chair or play mat.

Create a positive atmosphere for solid sleep, swaddled at night in a blacked out space and tucked in firmly over the shoulders during the day. If the startle reflex is strong, then swaddle during the day also. It’s a myth that a baby needs to get utilized to noise and can sleep anywhere in the very first few months; a baby who sleeps solidly at night will be a much lighter sleeper during the day so naps are finest in the bedroom where noise is restricted and dimmed illumination with a daily pram nap and maybe skin-to-skin cuddles.

The 2 minute rule

Waiting 2 minutes whenever your baby wakes or to settle, will allow your baby time to clear up themselves and makes sure he is genuinely in requirement of a feed at night. infants wake often but can just as swiftly autumn back to sleep. If you jump to every shout you may be up and feeding at night a lot more commonly than your baby actually needs which results in a higher milk intake at night and lower milk intake during the day.

Settling techniques

If you satisfy your new baby’s needs in the method of feeding and time awake, settling shouldn’t be as well much of an problem but some infants do requirement additional reassurance when settling and some even like a bit shout to clear up themselves. The less you do to settle, commonly the a lot more efficient and less stimulating. If you are rocking and pacing around, trying to get your baby off to sleep before putting him down then he is likely to wake when you have put him down. try calming over the shoulder, ten minutes before bed in the space he is sleeping in and pop him down to clear up himself.

Being consistent

Consistency with your baby’s routine with regards to length and quantities of feeding, naps and bath times assists your baby recognise the difference between night and day and naturally sleep longer with the night.

Be flexible

Being consistent with a day routine shouldn’t indicate inflexibility – a routine must be permanently evolving as baby grows. Strict timings will vary for a newborn particularly when they discover to sleep with the night. My routines are utilized as a guideline but have a number of variations as each baby is an private with different appetites and alertness levels which doesn’t always depend upon age and weight.

Keep calm and relaxed

Your baby senses your emotions and will feel if you are stressed. infants respond well and stay calm when handled with a calm and confident hand. You may not feel confident or even calm often as a new parent but by breathing deeply and slowing your heart rate down while holding your baby firmly will make your baby feel secure. sleep deprivation can be cruel particularly when getting to grips with breastfeeding and recuperating from providing birth so make time for the healing power of emotional bonding, mood, milk improving powers of skin to skin cuddles. Your baby will sleep with the night at his own speed as a result of a balanced routine which is commonly a developing process.

Happy Parenting!

BINGE TV: scandal FOR moms

Binge TV for parents is a real thing. What follows is an actual email dialog between myself and my friend, Crystal (both moms of three small people):

FROM ME TO CRYS {Re: notes on SCANDAL}

Have you watched SCANDAL? Whitney turned me onto it and I watched the first season on Netflix in two days. granted the first season was only seven episodes, but I do have three kids and a job… so there’s that.

The second season was about 22 episodes and I also slurped it up on Netflix using the TV, laptop, iPad, and my phone (even laptopping in my minivan while waiting to pick up kids at school). love that the Netflix experience remembers where I am even if I switch devices. It got to the point that if Alec got up to go to the kitchen to make himself (or let’s be honest here, MY self) a snack, I would watch a few minutes while he was gone.

The real problem came when I was gobbling up the third season. There have been 10 episodes so far but season 3 is not yet on Netflix. only the latter five episodes are on Hulu plus or ABC.com (the ABC app is the worst!) so I had to pay $$ on amazon or iTunes (or go to Whitney’s house and let her do it) so I could catch up.

But don’t worry. I made it. Come the end of February, when season 3 resumes in real-time, I’ll be ready for it.

Have you watched it? Do I sound crazy? Rereading this, I think I do.

FROM CRYS TO ME {Re: notes on SCANDAL}

Well, there is nothing I love more than getting completely obsessed with a show!

I recently went through: Sons of Anarchy, Orange is the new Black and Friday night Lights. totally watched all as you describe ”“ whatever screen I could get a free minute on.

I kind of like obsessing about a show on my own, bc Rob and I JOINTLY are obsessing on breaking Bad, but have so few opportunities to watch TV together, that it’s taking us like a year to watch the show. (I have to go to bed early for work, he’s busy earlier in the night so can’t watch with me, which is why I started looking for solo shows.)

You do sound a little crazy ? but I love it!

Tell me, why should I watch it?

FROM ME TO CRYS {Re: notes on SCANDAL}

Watch the first one and then tell me if you can stop!

I started watching because Whitney told me that she watched four in one day and that was over the weekend while her children were home… so I was curious and then couldn’t stop.

I love the speed-plotting satisfaction of so much happening each hour with a gigantic twist at the end of every episode. Not to mention, Olivia Pope is powerful kick-ass character with an immaculate wardrobe.

FROM CRYS TO ME {Re: notes on SCANDAL}

Starting episode 1!

FROM ME TO YOU guys {Re: notes on SCANDAL}

It’s not too late to watch 2.5 seasons of scandal before season 3 kicks up again (after the Olympics). I hear that ABC also offers similarly-titled shows like Betrayal, Revenge, and Defamation but I won’t be adding any of them to my queue (unless of course Whitney recommends them!)

Please confess in the comments if this sort of baby-induced TV binging has happened to you!

GUESSING GAME: ME OR MY KID?

This is me at ten. This is my child at (almost) ten. Can you tell which is which?

Pretty striking, huh? thanks to Wendy for scaring up this retro Mickey mouse visor on ebay for our fun! And these are the outtakes. Turns out it is not so simple to get a youngster to show just the best amount of eyes, smile, teeth, hair, as well as chin even when he’s completely up for it.

This is both of us around age five when, again, the resemblance is rather strong.

Big thanks to Anthony at PicMonkey for making my child much more “vintage” as well as mentor me a few great tricks!

Do you want to play my guessing game? Is your kid a small me (or a mini-Other-Parent)?

WHAT IS the best AGE FOR DISNEYLAND?

When I tell people we checked out the Magic Kingdom over Thanksgiving, they seem to be trying to gauge if their child is a good age for a first visit. My pal Mr. Honea, a daddy of two boys, who seems to be an expert on the place has a good answer. “Every age is a good age,” he says.

Here’s the one caveat I would make: It’s not so much about the age, but rather the disposition.

Call her crazy, but Scarlett is not wild about the idea of being strapped in an odd-looking automobile in buy to enter a dark tunnel in which she has zero idea of what may happen to her. so that eliminates a fair amount of rides, even age proper ones like the classic Peter pan (up, up and away!) and the (new-to-my-generation) Winnie The Pooh ride.

Here she is, approaching that nail-biter It’s a small World.

The Tea cups and Dumbo, rides on which you can see exactly what you’ve subscribed for, used pure delight. Autopia, another entirely outdoor ride, was named as the favorite of the day by both kids.

But no matter, this is only a problem if your expectation of the day is all about the rides. What I’ve learned from two check outs to Disneyland as a parent, each with a differently programmed first-timer, is that there is much a lot more to the park than rides. The place is genuinely magical. walking down main street feels like being in a Hallmark movie, everything sparkling and clean, and the gentle soundtrack of glee (but not Glee) wafting through the air.

Holiday time at Disneyland is extra incredibly fantastic, marked by extra lights on Sleeping Beauty’s castle and genuinely amazing parade. (My kids loved this parade so much, it was a little mind boggling.)

It’s a small world was doing it’s holiday thang, as well, with seasonal decorations and music.

Character spotting is genuinely exciting for both adults and kids — except for Scarlett who cried for me to take her out of the place where she could view Snow White (who I thought she loved?!), Cinderella, and Sleeping appeal all at once. Her reaction didn’t surprise me, but it did disappoint me. I wanted to enjoy her delight as she realized that dreams do come true, or wishes taste like bubble gum, or that bubble gum never sticks in your hair when you’re at Disneyland, or something like that.

Ryan and I went in to the day with the intent of staying as long as the kids continued to be into it, possibly well after their bedtime, but at about 6.30 PM we could see that they were done. We ate dinner on the premises, purchased the requisite t shirts, and headed home in the Ford Explorer (<— product placement!) we had borrowed for the week. At the end of the day, it was a pretty happy experience, especially for my non-anxious kid. The following morning, Scarlett bragged to her grandma about everything she had seen and done, with no mention of the times she spent shaking her head, “No,” or quaking in her boots. If you ask her if she’d agree that Disneyland is the Happiest place on Earth, she might agree. but then again, she might say that the middle spot of mommy and Daddy’s bed at 6 AM on Saturday morning is that place. A few extra notes: Lots of girls are wearing princess dresses around the park. If you think your child will be moping with envy over this fact (mine was), you may want to bring one. We had completely made a decision to go to Disneyland and absolutely would have paid for the tickets ourselves, but I did get invited to use media passes, so thank you to Disneyland for that. When I sought recommendations online, I got my hands on this link which has some exceptional ideas for first-time visitors. The food at Disneyland exceeded my expectations. I’m not saying I want to go there for dinner on a regular basis, but my kids got pizza with apple slices and carrots for lunch and then quesadillas or burritos with rice and beans for dinner. just as good as they eat at home, I’d say, and I was absolutely delighted with my food as well. My spouse and I both had salads for lunch. His was of the general garden-variety and mine was Asian chicken. good stuff. I’d like to keep going to Disneyland every other year as a Thanksgiving tradition, as we spend that week in Los Angeles checking out family anyway, or maybe annually as the kids start to get a lot more out of it. LINK LOVE: two youngsters UNDER two

As excited as I was to have one more kid after Julian, my uterus felt otherwise, as well as we ended up with two youngsters under three years old, rather than two years old, as well as are truly delighted with the spacing. Heather was similarly excited as well as hit the jackpot with the popular “two youngsters under two” status. (She has already lost her possibility to have three under three, BTW).

It turns out no matter exactly how close or far apart they are, if they are both under-age for independent street crossing, there are a great deal of logistical concerns to be worked out. I am undergoing the true test ideal now with my momentary living circumstance that lacks a car parking space. often I have to park on the next block as well as then walk, in a sidewalk-free neighborhood, with two youngsters as well as all the stuff that opts for them. Sometimes, it just cannot be done.

Just today I had to stop the vehicle in front of my house, leave the groceries there, then go discover a car parking space, as well as then make the walk. If I had kept the groceries in the car, they may have had to stay there up until my hubby got home.

If you’re expecting with your second child, this is going to be you soon. Don’t miss Amy‘s useful publish about “How to do two”.
